At WashU's TLCenter, we provide a training experience that equips students with the skills and knowledge required to meet the baseline certification requirements for performing IA duties. Our courses cater specifically to the Department of Defense (DoD) workforce, including military personnel, defense contractors, and civilians. We offer training and certification for IAT Level I, IAT Level II and IAT Level III, covering various topics such as network security, risk management and incident response.

IAT Career Training Guide

IAT Level I

As an Information Assurance Technician at the IAT Level I, you will be responsible for performing basic IA functions such as ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data. You will work on configuring and maintaining network security systems and devices, as well as conducting basic vulnerability assessments and analyzing system logs.

Our IAT Level I courses are designed to provide you with foundational skills in cybersecurity. The CompTIA Security+ Exam Prep course will teach you the fundamentals of cybersecurity and the skills needed to secure a network, as well as basic threat management and incident response. The CND: Certified Network Defender Exam Prep and CompTIA Network+ Exam Prep courses will teach you the basics of network defense and administration. Finally, the Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) course will teach you about the principles and practices of implementing a zero-trust security model.

IAT Level II

As an Information Assurance Technician at the IAT Level II, you will be responsible for performing intermediate IA functions such as configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting security systems and devices, as well as conducting vulnerability assessments and analyzing system logs. You will also be responsible for implementing security controls and mitigations to protect systems and data.

Our IAT Level II courses are designed to provide you with more advanced skills in cybersecurity. The CEH: Certified Ethical Hacker course will teach you about penetration testing and ethical hacking techniques, while the CySA+ Exam Prep and PenTest+ Exam Prep courses will provide you with more in-depth knowledge of vulnerability assessment and penetration testing. The CAP Exam Prep course will teach you about the Risk Management Framework and how to apply it to information systems.

IAT Level III

As an Information Assurance Technician at the IAT Level III, you will be responsible for managing and directing the IA programs of organizations, ensuring the security of complex information systems, and developing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. You will work on implementing and maintaining security controls, conducting risk assessments and security audits, and responding to security incidents.

Our IAT Level III courses are designed to provide you with advanced skills in cybersecurity. The CISA - Certified Information Systems Auditor Exam Prep, CISM - Certified Information Security Manager, CISSP Exam Prep, and CCISO Exam Prep courses will teach you the skills needed to manage and direct IA programs, including policy development, risk management, and compliance. The CASP Exam Prep course will teach you how to design and implement secure solutions. The ECSA: EC-Council Certified Security Analyst Exam Prep and CHFI: Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator courses will provide you with hands-on experience in conducting security assessments and investigating security incidents. Finally, the CompTIA Cloud+ Exam Prep course will teach you about the security considerations and best practices for cloud computing.

Each IAT level is designed to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to protect computer systems and networks from unauthorized access, disclosure and disruption.
The IAT program is recognized by both government and private organizations as a standard for information assurance training and certification. Many employers require IAT certification for personnel working with sensitive information.
